Russell Brand tries to save Spitalfields Market using Direct Action Comedy

In this scorching clip comedian Russell Brand dons the disguise of the Elephant Man to expose the corporate cancer eating away at the heart of our society. He confronts legal firm Allen & Overy and then stages a street protest outside Spitalfields Market, East London. The use of comedy, politics, direct action and silly costumes makes me think of the Situationist-inspired German activists, Hamburg for Free and Dresden for Free who dressed as Superheroes and raided expensive restaurants to put the wind up the seriously rich.

I think this clip is from late (Dec) 2002 and last time I looked Spitalfields Market had been turned into a soulless shopping centre for City dealers to spend the cash they’ve stolen from the 3rd World. Good try though Russell, more comedy direct action!

Russell is brilliant in these direct action comedy vids.Would he be able to do this kinda stuff now,or would he be too famous to carry it off? Would make a great telly series.
